Summertime is perfect for relaxing and not house cleaning. Metro Atlanta and Georgia have plenty of different options to choose from. There are many different places to explore and attractions to see. 

When you are ready for a perfect combination of sun, sand and the Atlantic Ocean, here are three of the best beaches in Georgia


Jekyll Island

Located over 400 miles south of Hartsfield-Jackson airport is Jekyll Island. Main attractions to Jekyll Island include the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, Summer Waves water park and Driftwood Beach. 

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center  is dedicated to its mission Through sea turtle rehabilitation, research and education programs, the Georgia Sea Turtle Center will increase awareness of habitat and wildlife conservation challenges, promote responsibility for ecosystem health and empower individuals to act locally, regionally, and globally to protect the environment.”

Summer Waves water park is a great family-friendly attraction that features a play area for kids, lots of splash zones and slides, as well as a lazy river to lay back and enjoy


Cumberland Island


Located about 60 miles north of Jacksonville, Florida, Cumberland Island is home to a herd of wild horses. To start your adventure, you will have to board a ferry in St. Mary’s, Georgia and take a 45-minute ride to the island. Once on Cumberland Island, you can choose to enjoy the 50 miles of hiking trails. take pictures along the 18 miles of undeveloped beach lines or camp overnight to see nature at its finest overnight. 

Tybee Island


A drive of about 260 miles from Hartfield-Jackson airport in Atlanta will get you to Tybee Island. There is plenty to do and to see. Seafood lovers can exerience several highly reviewed resturants, including The Crab Shack, Bubba Gumbo’s Seafood Resturant and A-J’s Dockside Resturant.

History buffs have acess to several historicial sites including the Tybee Island Light StationFort Pulaski National Monument and the Tybee Museum.

Tybee Island also has over 5 miles of beach line to enjoy. The most popular beach on Tybee Island is South Beach. It is the closests beach to several shops and resturants. It is also a popular place to hold wedding ceremonies.
